America Becomes Oceania

"The Biden Administration has proven the old punchline: Denial is not just a river in Egypt."

It had to happen. Without all the flutters and flourishes of an official Washington announcement, the Biden Administration has, in effect and practice, brought George Orwell’s fictitious dystopian country into reality. And not just in name only! The metamorphosis came complete with the popular Newspeak feature practiced by the Party’s Big Brother government that ruled the land in 1984.

For those who have yet to read and be amazed by Orwell’s prescience, Newspeak “…was a language favored by the minions of Big Brother and, in Orwell's words, "designed to diminish the range of thought." Newspeak was characterized by the elimination or alteration of certain words, the substitution of one word for another, the interchangeability of parts of speech, and the creation of words for political purposes. The word has caught on in general use to refer to confusing or deceptive bureaucratic jargon.” Merriam-Webster.com Dictionary

No objective analysis of political news over the last 18 months could otherwise conclude Newspeak is fully operational in the Biden Administration. From the costly, deadly, scandalous Afghanistan withdrawal deemed “successful”, the lobotomized reaction to Hunter Biden’s laptop, the ‘healthiest economy’ in the midst of unemployment and rampant inflation, gas prices and “Putin’s Tax Hike”, the safety and efficacy of vaccines followed by statistics that prove the exact opposite, the VP’s daily Word Salads, the menagerie of wacko’s, weirdo’s and flaming incompetents aka “Biden’s Cabinet”, all with their own lexicon of Newspeak-isms and Ministry of Truth revisions.

It’s as if The Babylon Bee merged with MAD Magazine.

The most recent doublethink from the White House: the new definition of “Recession”. The Winston Smiths of the Inner Swamp have been piling up overtime providing gauzy wordsmithing to a term with decades of consistency and agreement:

That is so 2021!

Now here's the Biden Newspeak treatment:

“What is a recession? While some maintain that two consecutive quarters of falling real GDP constitute a recession, that is neither the official definition nor the way economists evaluate the state of the business cycle.

Instead, both official determinations of recessions and economists’ assessment of economic activity are based on a holistic look at the data—including the labor market, consumer and business spending, industrial production, and incomes. Based on these data, it is unlikely that the decline in GDP in the first quarter of this year—even if followed by another GDP decline in the second quarter—indicates a recession.” (White House Council of Economic Advisers)

A chief characteristic of the Biden Administration is the uncanny ability – and practice – of all members to stare into the camera and make statements that absolutely deny truth, fact, logic, reality, and first-grade arithmetic. It’s been said, “There are no absolutes. Absolutely”. Another cliché bites the dust.

The Biden Administration has proven the old punchline: Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
