My initial attempt can be found below. The reason it’s not up here at the beginning is, for an Ode, I wandered into the weeds of history in an effort to provide a background of appreciation, the motive for writing it in the first place. Not good for ‘Ode’ material. The Subject is the star. Despite a couple decades scribbling for fun and very little profit, my Writing Discipline obviously needs oodles of work. James Bovard is the star of this show. His latest work “Last Rights – The Death of American Liberty” should be released next week. Having had the privilege of a sneak peek at Chapter One, “Tyranny Comes to Main Street”. In my untrammeled opinion, “Last Rights” will be a well-earned Blockbuster.   Evil and those who practice it have been around for a while. Who they are, What they do and Where they do it is easy to compute; When shows up in the headlines eventually. “Why” is the tough one. The sudden appearance of ‘transgenderism, ‘gender fluidity’ and the gruesome stories that followed baffled me and, I suspect, most everyone who pays attention. What does the Thanksgiving – Christmas Axis of Holidays have in common with Plato’s Allegory of the Cave ? Weird, I know. It’s the only comparison that describes my reaction to the stories abounding, telling how this holiday season “Over 30% of Gen Z participants said they’ll be celebrating with friends to avoid family drama this year.” ( Preplay )( Newsweek ). There are other polls and pieces about other Gen- Somethings doing almost anything else to avoid “family”, what B-Boomers would refer to as ‘traditional’. Is this really happening? Where have I been? There seems to be two distinct evolutionary variations of human beings emerging, not differences in physicality or intelligence but a psychological difference, a distinct fork in the human evolutionary road too profound to be attributed to simple cultural or generational differences. One variation that is emotionally driven and one that is rationally driven. These aren't matters of maturity or ignorance like we so often want to believe but an actual evolutionary variation in people's psychology where either emotions or rational is the predominant psychological driving force in one's life.
