Happy Birthday (United States Government) Terrorism

William Norman Grigg, a fellow co-conspirator at  LewRockwell.com , writes one of the most pointed, poignant and provocative pieces  indicting our our freedom-loving agents and agencies within the Logic Free Zone and the terrorism they have waged against any group or individual who dare embarrass The Regime with truth and facts. I hope Mr. Grigg is a light sleeper and has a large rear-view mirror. As an Extra Bonus for this festive occasion, here is my friend Jim Bovard's blog  featuring his most excellent 1995 Wall Street Journal article on the occasion of Ruby Ridge and the compassionate work of select agents of our beloved FBI who walk among us today.

Two Takes

Cyber pal and LRC co-conspirator Gary D. Barnett hits a couple right outta da park... Regarding today's ESB/NYC  shooting spree ....Bring your calculator. And a perfect parsing and commentary  on a revealing Condoleezza Rice interview that should be Required Reading for all peace-loving Conservatives.

Monty Speaks! Lew Writes!

Noted financial, economic and political guru Monty Pelerin joined me  Thursday, 23 August, to play Paul Revere as he discussed the "the Cliff" and other imminent calamities about to be visited upon us all. To appreciate the full impact of the conversation, read  this first. Wouldn't you agree your favorite teachers in school were the ones who helped you actually learn stuff? Personally, I am fondly indebted to Miss McEnroe (English), Mr. Simon (Science), Mr. Morgan (Ancient History), Mr. Gordon (American History), MaryAnn (Sex Ed.....well, technically that wasn't " school ") for incubating what hatched into an abiding affection and appreciation for all they taught me.While I never took any classes in Economics (and slept through most of Accounting 101), over my years in Talk Radio I have come to learn the essence of economic principles from some of today's best: Walter E. Williams, Tom Sowell, Thomas E. Woods, Jr., Stephen Moore and Llewellyn H. Rockwe

"Prolonged Detention"???

Must have missed this one  on Network News. Did you?

Is It Paranoia If They're Really Out To Get You?

Timely, informative nuggets from selected gold mines on the Internet... Inconvenient and intemperate questions  about certain Government actions... For all your financial plans, this E-Z to understand piece  from occasional show guest, Monty Pelerin. WARNING: This could scare the crap out of you. And it should. A Bit of Paine

Among other worthy endeavors, Margaret "Maggie" Thurber is a prolific blogger and occasional substitute host on my station WSPD/Toledo . While laser-like in her focus on local matters, Maggie also comments on national issues. Her blog is " Thurber's Thoughts ".  " Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer ." ~ Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776 Liberals often point to things that society does and - incorrectly - assume that because it exists in society, government should also do it. Additionally, they - wrongly - justify government acting simply because society has. Society, culture, religion, etc... all teach us that it is proper, righ

Happy John Galt Day!

The following celebratory message from ClaireWolfe , one of the most tireless, prolific, entertaining and insightful writers for Freedom and Liberty among us. BW                Mythperceptions and a vision of freedom Urge people to free themselves, or even offer a little good news about freedom, and somebody is bound to retort with some anti-freedom myth. Two big ones that have made appearances in recent comment sections here at Ye Olde Blog are: Government is so powerful it’ll stop us. (It’ll disarm us, cut off our ‘Net access, round us all up and put us in camps, etc.) Yes, but there will still be people who … (Want to take our guns, support government programs, can’t handle freedom, etc.) That second one doesn’t look like a myth on its face. There will always be people who want to use power to oppress others. There will always be people who don’t hold our values (in fact, from year-to-year we may not even hold our own values). But the statement expresses a myth: W

"Outsourcing"? Good! Very Good!

Required Reading: This most excellent piece by  Harry Binswanger  body-slams the nonsensical, blathering of collectivist politicians, labor thugs and other hustlers who stampede through the paradigm preaching the intellectually bankrupt sermon of "economic xenophobia and paranoia". Take a copy to your next debate! BW OUTSOURCING -- American At Its Best Mitt Romney and President Obama are currently fighting over who is more against outsourcing. Obama slams Romney for Bain Capital’s outsourcing of jobs to China. Romney counters by labeling Obama “Outsourcer in Chief.” John Boehner and Harry Reid are both outraged over America’s Chinese made Olympic uniforms. “Burn them!” thunders Reid.  Republicans and Democrats agree that outsourcing is destructive and unpatriotic, and that the practical and patriotic thing to do is to “Hire American.”  Wrong on both counts. Count one: Protectionist economics is as fallacious in regard to importing labor services as it is regard

Don't Read This

OK - so you don't follow directions, take advice or read Warning Labels very well. Me either. Rules were made to be broken, right? Here's the thing: nobody likes bad news. Especially if it's going to require a change, to get out of your "comfort zone". But when a bad storm is approaching, even those who eschew "bad news" will tune in for the latest weather report. That information - however scary - becomes a life line (see Katrina et al). Talk Radio teaches the practitioner a few things. Everybody has an opinion and most people have little-to-no factual clue what their talking about or why they believe it. For most, they "heard it somewhere". For others, their opinions are based on the adrenalin of their emotions, their feelings: "I feel Obama is doing a great job." Fine - but what do you think ? More appropriately: Do  you think? Two great quotes to take with you:         "You are entitled to your own opinion, but not

Well?

Last Friday, US Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced HR 6357, a bill which aims to ‘prohibit the extrajudicial killing of United States citizens’ by the federal government. In other words, in the Land of the Free, they need to pass a law to prevent the government from indiscriminately murdering its own citizens. Now if this doesn’t give one reason to pause and consider the distortions of liberty that have taken place in western civilization, I don’t know what will. Think about it:  •Does a free society send government hit men to eliminate anyone they perceive to be an enemy of the state?  •Does a free society have hundreds of police agencies, each with the authority to deprive a man of his life, liberty and property in their sole discretion?  •Does a free society have hundreds of thousands of laws, codes, rules, regulations, and policies which effectively criminalize nearly every aspect of one’s existence?  •Does a free society lead the world in prison population?  •Does a fr

THERE is John Galt!

One of the problem with analogies, metaphors, parables and the like: too many people try to parse the message right out of the simplicity.    A recent   American Thinker   article  went from asking “Who is John Galt?” in the context of the book to “Who   needs   John Galt” when “going Galt” is happening  just as Ayn Rand’s   magnum opus   “ Atlas Shrugged”   depicted. After chastising Galt “who abandons society, works surreptitiously to destroy it, and then delivers an ultimatum when that destruction is nearly complete”, the author plaintively asks ““Where   is   John Galt?”. Not Rand’s hero but  a new John Galt, one who would “ ‘recruit’ the movers and shakers, the innovators and creators, and, authorized by them to speak for them, would give us fair warning   today ,   before   the damage is done, while there is still time to change course.”. Where are Miles Standish and John Alden when you (don’t) need them? Ayn Rand had the temerity to die before either the AT author or

A Recent Discovery

"Monty Pelerin" is the pseudonym of a gifted writer/thinker who held several CFO positions in the Corporate world as well a decade or so teaching graduate courses to a classroom  full of students getting much more than their student loan's worth. You may share their experience. This is his most excellent - and informative - web  site . My latest conversation with Monty can be heard  here . The following is a Free Sample excerpted from his blog: Holman W. Jenkins, Jr. describes the campaign problem that Obama confronts: … Team Obama at least senses trouble and reportedly is looking for a positive message. But what message? Stay the course? What course? For and against gay marriage? For and against fossil fuels? More Solyndras? More trillion-dollar deficits? A recovery more halting and uncertain the longer Mr. Obama presides over it? They have nothing, absolutely nothing, to run on. That is why the campaign, as explained in detail in Mr. Jenkins’ article,

Decisions, decisions

Fork It Decision is a risk rooted in the courage of being free.                              Paul Tillich World-renowned philosopher and former Yankee catcher Yogi Berra infamously advised, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”  International recon based on current events confirms our choices are grim. Economists – other than NY Times   Paul “Spendalot” Krugman – are unanimous in their general assessment  the unholy alliance between the Fed’s printing presses and politicians’ profligate spending has brought us to the fork  from which there is no turning back; the brakes on this bus were blown out several trillion “miles” back; the steering wheel is stuck, too. So where are we headed? Which way should we go? The incessant saber rattling coming from the capitals of the important parts of the world indicate the Middle East will be getting hotter – and not due to sprinklings from Global Warming Fairy. Add to that volatile mix, the soap opera, “ Eurozone ”,
